One of the most amazing parts of visiting Hawaii for me was to experience and begin to understand a little bit about the amazing art of Hawaiian quilting and applique. The workmanship alone is something that is unbelievable to comprehend in so many of the examples of island art. One of the common quilting motifs and designs is called Breadfruit, named after a common tropical fruit. The applique design is one of the most classic ones and is seen very often in Hawaiian applique quilts. This is our much simplified and pieced version of the same block. We have made Breadfruit in at least 4 different color ways so far and love each and every single one.
